The international cooperation network “bio2pack – natural materials and sustainable packaging solutions” is a unique association of small and medium-sized companies and research institutions in Germany, Austria and Luxembourg.

Until very recently, sustainable packaging solutions have only been evaluated based on price considerations. However, nowadays, many companies and users have to contend with stricter laws and growing numbers of critical consumers.

bio2pack brings together a wide range of expertise from all fields related to the life cycle of packaging. The focus is on using natural fibres in ecological, sustainable packaging solutions in all aspects, including packaging design, raw materials, production and recycling. We know market-relevant multipliers and actors, and we foster ties between them in order to develop – along with our network partners – a portfolio of solutions for the innovative use of natural raw materials in eco-friendly, sustainable packaging solutions. Requirements such as recyclability, a low CO2 footprint and the use of natural raw materials are just a few of the factors that are taken into consideration.

bio2pack is supported by Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) via its Central Innovation Programme for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (ZIM).

The network started its Phase I work in June 2018.
